What is the Senior Courts Costs Office Guide?
The SCCO guide provides guidance in relation to the implementation of the Civil Procedure Rules for legal costs. A new guide was released in January 2021 to replace the 2018 version, although the changes made have not been extensive. The new guide now reflects some changes that were made before the pandemic and have now been further updated as a result. The new version of the guide can be found here.
What Information is Provided Within the Guide?
The Senior Courts Costs Office guide typically related to Part 43 to Part 48 of the Civil Procedure Rules. Part A of the guide provides information on general matters, such as orders, how bills of costs will be assessed by costs officers as well as details on electronic bills of costs. Part B provides guidance on detailed assessment proceedings to include points of dispute and reply, costs hearings and interest on costs. Part C of the SCCO guide provides information on different types of applications, and Part D provides information on specific proceedings such as legal aid cases and solicitor client assessments.
